What Makes The World Progressive

Yesterday afternoon at 1pm I attended the 2011 graduation of the students from Greater Egleston Community High School.  My friend Allain was one of the gradutes and is the main reason I went there.  If you are thinking that I went to the graduation on the sole pupose to find some dates to pay for my lunches for the month, then know that you are right. I have school loans you know.

Going forward, I felt that it was important for me to post this graduation up because fourteen students who graduated seven of them wound up shedding tears as they told there story of pain, anguish, and the fulfillment they felt because of their current success.  One girl is here alone while her family and children at back home in the Caribbean.  While a different girl directed her entire time to her parents who are in America as immigrants and fight hard with her.  Another person shared with us that he had been kicked out of three schools.  And another individual reminded everyone that the game isn't over.  One person couldn't continue speaking after they introduced them selves.

My friend Allain, who is a gay youth, was apart of a charter school with a tough curriculum called City on a Hill.  Allain started to have family troubles because of his sexual orientation, and in the process started failing his classes.  For the graduation the people who should up were his gay family, and friends (me).  ::Allian is the Grad who is in the photos with the guy wearing a grin and a lime green dress shirt. they are currently dating::

I felt compelled to share this with you because they matter. they matter to me and many other people. Do you remember a time when you felt like an uncomprehensibly loneliness, and there was almost no one around who supported you? They did.  I was reminded once again about why I am an activist and volunteer and why I have to report what goes unreported in today's media.

I leave you with this: if you are a volunteer or teacher in Boston and are trying to find out where to work next, then consider working for Greater Egleston Community High School.  The staff is caring, the classes, small, the inspiration high, and the need for caring people is never ending.  We are all looking for hope to a better tomorrow; a reassurance.

By the way, I want you to remember that dropping out of school or anything doesn't make you a failure.  Always remember this, "A person is built whole from the pieces that they once where."  Enjoy the photos.
